How this Procedure is Done
A breast enhancement consultation with highly skilled surgeons is a crucial step in getting the results you desire. After elaborating on your goals, they will go over your medical history and raise your awareness of the whole procedure. Considering the importance of this step, Iranian experts are certainly recommended since they are so experienced in cosmetic surgeries and can help you achieve the primary goals you have. The low cost of such operations in Iran can be another factor for having this surgery in Iran’s hospitals providing advanced cutting edge medical equipment.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
This plastic surgery is done by placing implants behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. It is an effective procedure which improves not only the cup size of the breast but the shape and overall appearance. Women who would like to have larger breasts or have experienced a loss of volume in the breasts after pregnancy and breastfeeding can benefit from this surgery.
In this procedure, the surgeons consider many factors such as age, desired cup size, or additional need for a rejuvenation to meet patients’ needs. It is held that women who choose breast augmentation experience great gains in confidence and self-esteem after the surgery.
What Are Breast Implants?
A breast implant is a medical prosthesis that is placed inside the breast to augment, reconstruct, or create the physical form of the breast. There are two significant kinds of breast implants. Saline implants are filled with a sterile saline solution, like saltwater. The solution is kept within an elastomer silicone shell. These implants can be filled with various amounts of saline solution, which affect the firmness and shape of the breast. Silicone gel-filled implants are composed of a silicone outer shell filled with a silicone gel. Patients choosing this type of implant should have more regular checks through an MRI or ultrasound scan.
It is important to note that both saline and silicone come in different sizes and have either smooth or textured shells. Each has its own pros and cons, so it is a matter of preference.
Breast implants can be placed in different ways:
- The surgeon may make a cut on the underside of your breast and places the implant through this opening. Your scar maybe a little more visible if you are young, thin, and have not yet had children.
- The implant may also be placed through a cut under your arm using an endoscope; a tool with a camera and surgical instruments at the end.
- A cut around the edge of your areola may be made by the surgeon; the darkened area around your nipple. In this method, you may have problems with breastfeeding and loss of sensation around the nipple.
Who Can Benefit from Breast Augmentation?
Since breasts develop until a woman reaches her late teens or early 20s, the FDA requires that women be at least eighteen years old to get breast augmentation with saline-filled implants and at least twenty-two years old for receiving silicone implants.
Non-Smoking, Healthy women with good skin elasticity and realistic expectations about the results of the procedure can benefit from this surgery. They must be committed to the points mentioned by their surgeon to take care of themselves before and after the surgery, optimize healing, and promote good results.
Breast augmentation with implants is an outpatient procedure which takes about an hour or two. Once you have talked about your goals with your surgeon and chosen the implant type and size you desire, your surgeon will determine the proper incision and implant placement depending on your body, the kind of implant, and how much enlargement is being done. After the incisions are made, the implants will be inserted above or below the chest wall muscle. Once the implant is positioned, the incisions will be closed.
This process takes about one to two weeks. You should not lift any heavy object for up to six weeks after getting your implants. You will have some swelling in the area where the surgery was done. Gradually, the swelling will ease, and the scars should fade. Most women can go back to work by one week after surgery.
After Breast augmentation, the size and shape of your breasts will be changed. However, the passage of time, weight gain, or weight loss might also play a role in changing the way your breasts look. Accordingly, you should keep your expectations realistic.
Since breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime, you can have the implants replaced in case of serious complications or if the size and shape of your breasts change over time. Getting an MRI scan three years after the implant surgery for women who have silicone gel-filled implants will be needed. MRI scans should be done about every two years to check for silent rupture.
Regarding the size of your breast augmentation, a bigger one is not necessarily better. Large breasts can cause various difficulties like back, neck, and shoulder pain. Similarly, an extremely large implant may also stretch out or sag as time passes. To make the right choice, you should consult with experienced surgeons. They use some tools such as digital imaging to help you achieve your goals.
As mentioned by The Institute of Medicine (IOM), women who have had breast implants are three times as likely as others to have an inadequate milk supply. However, regarding the safety of breast milk, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have not found any special evidence yet.
For the first few days, you should ask someone to take care of you since lifting objects, or other similar physical activities are forbidden. As time goes by, you can go back to your routine daily life.
Certainly. Mammograms are significant diagnostic tools for women. Since the implant placed inside the breast may be considered an obstacle for viewing the breast tissue in a mammogram, special implant views are also recommended to make sure that the breasts are examined properly.
This issue highly depends on the type of implant used. While they will never feel like the natural tissue, silicone gel implants give your breasts a somewhat natural look.
